Professor Nassar got his PhD in 1981 at the University of Cincinnati; in the period 1985-2002 has been at the Lawrence Technological University (Michigan). In 2002, he moved to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Oakland University (Michigan), where has been a Distinguished University Professor since 2012: the only professor to attain the that rank in the 60-year if history of the School of Engineering and Computer Science at OU.

He is the Founding Director and Principal Investigator , of the "Fastening and Joining Research Institute (FAJRI)", within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Oakland University.

Prof. Nassar is the author of 1 book, 4 chapters of book, 82 papers published in international high reputation journals, 85 papers published in peer-reviewed conference proceedings. Prof. Nassar is accredited of more than 860 citations and has an h-index equal to 16.

Prof. Nassar has been and is the principal investigator in a number of research projects funded by US national federal agency and by first level US industries such as Ford Motor Company, General Motors and Chrysler.

Prof. Nassar is an Associate Editor of the ASME journal of Pressure Vessel Technology, a Fellow of ASME and is the Chair of the upcoming international Symposium on Fastening and Joining Research at the ADSME-IMECE2017.
