From 2012 Prof. Parker is the L.S. Randolph Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech. Previously he was a University Distinguished Professor and Executive Dean at University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint University.

He recieved his M.S. and PhD degrees form the University of California, Berkeley.

Prof. Parker is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Enineers (ASME) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is the recipient of many scientific and academic awards, among which the US Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineering.

During his stay at Politecnico di Torino, Prof. Parker will collaborate with the LAQ AERMEC research group of DIMEAS in the field of nonlinear structural dynamics of lightweight gears and turbine bladed disks, with the aim of developing numerical tools for the design of aero-engine components.
