Attraction and retention of excellent professors trough Starting Grants

The initiative is promoted within the framework of the Agreement between Politecnico di Torino and Compagnia di San Paolo (CSP) for the three-year period 2019-2021, following the project "Attracting excellent professors through Starting Grant" financed in the previous Agreement 2016-2018.

The new initiative is in line with the Strategic Plan "Polito4Impact" 2018-2024, which aims to foster multidisciplinarity and internationalization in research and teaching, also through the recruitment of talented external professors who have complementary skills to those already existing at Politecnico.

The initiative allows Politecnico to attract talented professors, especially from abroad, who want to choose Politecnico as "Host Institution" trough the negotiation of starting grants, to be used for human resources and/or infrastructures in order to carry out their research at Politecnico.

Starting grants may be awarded to new professors (full or associate professors) or fixed term researchers (RTDB) in strategic research fields. In specific cases, the Rector may also negotiate a starting grant with internal professors awarded with a ERC grant or other grants of high scientific prestige, with the aim of creating retention paths.

The amount of the grant will be defined on the basis of the following criteria: reputation and international qualification of the teacher, opening of new research fields, experimental research, and contribution of prestigious grants (e.g. ERC).

The documentation related to the initiative is available at this link.
