Analog/Mixed Signal Design Automation based on Artificial Intelligence

Title of the research project
AMBEATion - Analog/Mixed Signal Back End Design Automation based on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Techniques
Scientific area
Artificial Intelligence, Data mining, Electric and Electronic Engineering
Abstract
The AMBEATion project intends to use Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Modelling techniques to extend Digital Design Automation to Analog design. The mixed academic-industry consortium plans to train a focused team of researchers on algorithm development and application to the industrial AMS (Analog/Mixed Signal) design.
Description of the research project
In the field of the Electronic Integrated circuit design, the complex electronic devices needed for e-commerce, smart work, Internet of Things (IoT), Smart Driving, Industry 4.0 and even Active Assisted Living, consist of heterogeneous subsystems and components providing different functionalities. Those components are assembled through digital and analogic connections. The physical design of the digital part is largely automated; on the opposite, the physical design of all analog blocks and the whole integrated circuits is still handmade, because it has not yet been possible to achieve by automation the quality of manually crafted physical designs.
The AMBEATion consortium will utilize a holistic approach which applies enhanced tools to categories of designs (i.e. Smart Systems) with the objective of further enhance the productivity of designers in the design automation of complex low power devices.
Impact on researcher’s career and on society
The training of Early Stage Researchers, the augmented know how of Staff Personnel from the involved Academies and Enterprises and the well-established networking cooperation between partners will be the most valuable benefits of our AMBEATion action.
Moreover, a broader impact is expected on the competitiveness of the European economy, as the development of new products and production processes is an essential factor in all key technology areas and the basis of forthcoming society with respect to security, sustainable economy and production, green or connected society relies on Smart Systems and could benefit from broader Design Automation technologies.
